I. Workshops
The Society organizes various workshops at a nominal charge on Art therapy, Play therapy, Trauma therapy and various kinds of psychometry. These workshops are open to public with some conditions for qualifications. Till date we have received very good response from the general population, especially those who are in the area of mental health and there is a growing demand for more such workshops.
II. Seminars
The Society also organizes national and international seminars on various topics of psychoanalytic interest. Last year, the Society was part of the International COWAP (Community of Women and Psychoanalysis) which was held in Kolkata at the Gateway Hotel and was attended by many international and national academics and psychoanalysts. This year also the COWAP seminar will be held in Kolkata in the month of November, of which the Indian Psychoanalytical Society will be a part.
A two-day interdisciplinary seminar was organized by the Indian Psychoanalytical Society on the occasion of 150 birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The cream of the Academia of Kolkata participated in the seminar and it was highly appreciated.
Our Mumbai chapter organizes a seminar yearly in collaboration with Australian Society of Psychoanalysis.
All these academic activities are highly intellectually stimulating and help us to develop deeper insight about ourselves and society.
III. Theory classes and clinical discussions
Apart from these regular weekly classes are held at the premises of the Society for the trainee candidates of the Society. Clinical case discussions are also regularly held for the candidates. These classes, however, are open only to those candidates who are taking training in psychoanalysis.
Apart from all these various other academic activities, like celebrating the birthday of Freud in an academic way, remembering Ferenczi etc. also are done by the students of the IPS.
IV. Library
The Society has a fully computerized subject specific library. Being a very old library, it not only has some important contemporary books on psychoanalysis, it also has some important valuable and rare edition of old books on psychoanalysis, psychology, physiology and psychiatry. The computerization helps one to search with the help of key-words as you do on the internet.
Besides books, the library also has a good collection of journals. The library can be used by the students and members of Indian psychoanalytical Society and also by students of limited number of colleges and universities. Candidates not belonging to the IPS can only avail of the reading facility. Library Hours are: 11 AM – 4 PM.
V. The movie club
The candidates of the IPS have formed a movie club which sits every third Saturday of a month. The purpose of the club is to watch a movie and understand and analyse its psychoanalytic underpinning.
The membership of the club is open to general public. Anyone interested in movies and psychoanalysis is eligible to become a member of the movie club.
